VIPKid Is NOT a Scam

VIPKid is a company that is based out of China. It offers people that are eligible to work in the United States and Canada an opportunity to work from home or anywhere they are through an online platform. The money that can be made through VIPKid is very good and so many that are not familiar with VIPkid seem to be skeptical when they are introduced to the company for the first time. I was.

So, what is it? Is its multi-level marketing? Is it a get-rich-quick scheme? Is it a scam? It is none of those things. VIPKid is a legitimate multi- billion-dollar company that is offering a legitimate opportunity for those that qualify and are looking for an opportunity. It is a company that contracts close to 80.000 teachers and sends out paychecks to those teachers every month. So, let’s take a closer look….

What is a Scam?

A scam is simply a dishonest scheme or fraud. In business, scams are the result of individuals, groups, or companies trying to obtain money or something of value through tricks, misrepresentations, or unfulfilled promises. Because of the internet, people have discovered tremendous financial benefits however many people have fallen prey to the unscrupulous. In short, many people are skeptical of opportunities that they may know little or nothing about and for good reason. In short, a scam is any scheme that makes promises that are not going to be realized. The victim of a scam loses something of value because they are deceived.

VIPKid is not a scam. It is a legitimate company offering a legitimate opportunity. Like most companies, people have good and bad experiences with VIPKid. However, a bad experience with an organization does mean that it is a scam.

VIPKid offers its teachers referral bonuses in order to help recruit new teachers. This is why VIPKid teachers have used a variety of means to tell people about the opportunity. Therefore, people may be accustomed to many online claims about VIPKid. Because of this, it is normal for people to assume that VIPKid some type of MLM (multi-level marketing) or get-rich-quick work from home scheme that is often seen on the internet. VIPKid is none of these things. Instead, it is a legitimate online English language teaching company that offers a unique opportunity to people that are eligible to work in the US or Canada.

Like all companies, VIPKid isn’t perfect. Many people have applied for teaching positions and have been turned away, people have been terminated, and people have quit for a variety of reasons. These situations are common for all existing companies and are not the characteristics of an online scam. As I stated, VIPKid isn’t perfect and has had its share of controversy and complaints but it remains a legitimate company with a legitimate opportunity.

VIPKid DOES NOT fit the definition of a Scam

VIPKid is a legitimate company that has been teaching Chinese students English through native North American English teachers for about five years. It was launched in 2014. Currently, it contracts close to 80,000 teachers worldwide and services over 600,000 Chinese students. VIPKid has plans to grow its business all over the world.

Teachers are paid $18 to $22 per hour and teachers receive their checks on time for the correct amount every month. Again, VIPKid isn’t perfect and it isn’t for everybody. Teachers are hired as independent contractors which means there are no additional benefits outside of the pay and you must keep track of what is owed in taxes.

The company itself has built a reputation. I feel confident in saying that most teachers enjoy the experience and it seems to meet the needs of both the teachers it contracts and the students that are serviced. VIPKid has received both positive and negative press, but that is quite usual for all companies. VIPkid has been highly rated by Forbes, Flex jobs, and Glassdoor. Read what Forbes has to say.

Is VIPKid for you?

Certainly, that is a question that only you can answer. But here are a few things to consider.

Most teachers, including myself, have positive experiences working for VIPKid.

The pay from VIPKid is relatively good for the industry that it is in. Teachers enjoy being able to set their own hours and having the flexibility of when and where they chose to work. Many ESL companies have rules that restrict schedules, and this can be very problematic, but this isn’t the case at VIPKid.

The downside is that it is difficult to cancel classes once they have been booked and if you live in the US or Canada you will be working in the early morning hours. My schedule is usually from 4 am to 8 am and mainly on weekends.

I agree with your assessment totally that VIPKid is not a scam. I have heard a lot of good things about it from people on the inside and also from some of my Chinese friends who are familiar with the services that it offers to them. They are quite happy with the service.

It s good that you drill down to explain to anyone that may be doing some due diligence on the platform, as there are some negative people out there that will use negative reviews to drive people to their program versus VIPKid. It is unfair and nit very nice, but it happens.

Everything that you lay out in your review shows me that VIPKid is a good opportunity to make some extra money online for doing something that you like to do in any case (teaching and teaching English too). I think every person who has any remote interest in this niche should give it a try. Definitely NOT a scam. Thanks for putting this together…

Filipinos are good at teaching English they just need a training so that they’d qualify for this kind of work. If VIPKid is accepting Filipinos, then this can be a good opportunity for my countrymen as there are a lot of people here who are looking for jobs online as English teachers. Can I recommend this to my friends? Are they accepting Filipino applicants?

VIPkid is a pretty good online teaching platform and I appreciate a solid review here. Scams are all too common these days and it’s really important to point them out. I agree VIPkid definitely is not a scam. Thank you for pointing out the qualifications as well. Have you had any experience with any other online teaching platforms? Thanks again for a great post!

I can say that this is not bad at all. I have a certification regarding the English teaching and I am sure I would succeed with this platform, it is strange I did not hear about that before. I think that folks could earn pretty nice money here. I will try it right away, the most important thing for me is that it is not a scam.

Hello and thanks a lot for choosing to explain what VIPKid is and how it works. I had not heard it before but I have experience as an online language teacher (more of a native conversational tutor) through what I think is a similar platform called Italki. And so I understand when you tell us that this is not a scam or a get rich quick scheme.

Probably to ask you mentioned in the video that teachers are usually outsourced from the US and Canada- which I would guess is because they are native speakers. Is this opportunity available for non native teachers that teach English?

Well thanks for reviewing VIPkid. I’ve heard about it previously and really glad that it’s not a scam for both the teacher and student. It’s too bad that only teachers that eligible to work in US and Canada that can apply here, so I can apply as a teacher there. Do you know what payment method that available in their platform? I can at least tell this to my close friend in Canada. She is a Chinese who studied English literature, so I’m sure she can excel in VIPkid.
