VIPKid Teaching

The Experience
Teaching at VIPKid is a little different from what many people may have experience in school either as a student or teacher. Students at VIPKid take two types of courses: Major Course (MC) which are leveled 1 through 7 and supplemental courses (which focus on language deficits such as reading and grammar). All the course material is based on a combination of standards such as TEFL and US K12 Common Core. The classes are 25 to 28 minutes long and center around 19 to 41 slides (think PowerPoint) which both the student and teacher interact. The VIPKid Work Hours and Schedule

The Experience
The vast majority of students that take English classes from VIPKid live in China. Therefore, the classes at VIPKid are based on the Beijing Time Zone (BJT). All the teachers that work for VIPKid must be eligible to work in the United States or Canada, so most of the teachers live in time zones that are in North America. This means that most teachers live in a time zone that can be anywhere from 12 to 16 hours behind the BJT depending on the time of year and the exact location of the teacher. Not all VIPKid teachers live in North America, VIPKid teachers live all over the world so the issue with the time difference affects the teachers differently depending on where they live. However, since most VIPKid teachers…

My VIPKid Experience

The Experience

Teaching English or anything else to children isn't intimidating, however teaching online can be and I wanted to share my story in order to encourage others who may be considering VIPKid online teaching to generate income. In February 2018, I was sent a message on Facebook Messenger about a VIPKid online teaching opportunity. I looked at it, closed it, and didn't even consider it for another 5 months. In June 2018, I decided I needed to generate some additional income and I took another look at the message about becoming a VIPKid teacher. I filled out an online application and in order to be considered for…
